Invented in the Seventies, Rubik's Cube enjoyed several years of sometimes-fanatical popularity before it faded in the Eighties. In the early 2000s, a new generation re-discovered Rubik's Cube, and it has been going strong ever since. It should come as no surprise, then, that the magic and mentalism community has developed ways to amaze audiences with the iconic cube.
A quick search online will uncover a host of commercial routines, with most of them based on the premise of how magically fast the performer can solve the puzzle or their ability to predict how an audience member is going to mix up the cube's sides. A number of years ago, there were rumblings here and there about how the cube could be used for readings, but besides a set of 2015 lecture notes from Richard Webster (of course!), until recently there was practically nothing commercially available on the topic.

"If It Was A Bear..."
When I was young and asked my mother where something was, she'd often reply, "If it was a bear, it would bite you", meaning that what I was looking for was practically right in front of me. In a similar fashion, sometimes a brilliant concept can stare you in the face, and without the proper context it will evade your perception. Romanos' Rubik's Cube Reading System is a perfect example of this. When he first contacted me about publishing this book, I must admit I was skeptical. But within a few pages of reading, I laughed out loud at the soundness and simplicity of his approach; like me, you may also find yourself thinking, "Of course... why didn't I think of that?"

But while a concept may be a simple one to state, its utility may be hard to put into action without the proper instruction, and that's where Romanos' book can be an invaluable component for moving the concept into the world of action. So, if you read on some forum that the Rubik's Cube Reading System is based on the ___________ principle and think, "I know that principle -- all I need to do is dig out my old Rubik's Cube and use it for tomorrow's gig"... you may be right. Then again, your client may wonder afterwards, "What was that all about?", because it's unlikely that you'll think of many of the tips and angles that Romanos has put into this book that turns the basic concept into a full-fledged system.
In addition to his concise and comprehensive instructions on how to deliver inspirational readings with the Rubik's Cube, Romanos has included many photos and illustrations which leave no ambiguity in how to use his system. He breaks the reading down into three simple steps and illustrates them with several sample readings which can be used as is or as starting points for your own readings.
In the interest of full disclosure, you should know that there is some memorization required for the Rubik's Cube Reading System. This should in no way discourage you, because (1) if you've been giving readings for a while, it's very likely you already know the material that needs to be memorized, and (2) if by some chance you don't already have the necessary material under your belt, Romanos leads you by the hand through the memorization process, making it both natural and easy to remember the information. And, as a side benefit, you'll be able to use your newly-learned knowledge in other areas as well.

Are You A Cuber?
OK, that's a trick question, because it doesn't really matter if you're wondering if Romanos' Rubik's Cube Reading System is right for you.
If you are already using a Rubik's Cube in your performances, it's an easy and logical step to incorporate a quick Rubik's Cube Reading System reading into the mix... and don't be surprised if the reading impacts your audience more than the original effect. On the other hand, if you're one of those people who has been intimidated by the 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 (that's over 43 quintillion!) possible combinations and chosen to not even touch a Rubik's Cube, rest assured -- you most certainly do not have to know how to solve the puzzle in order to deliver very effective readings with it.
Fun With Readings
Here's another good reason why you might want to add Romanos' Rubik's Cube Reading System to your repertoire: the cube is an object that most people are familiar with, and associate with fun -- unlike some of the other oracles we professionals love to use.
